Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) expects local production to ease to about 60,000 units this year from roughly 63,500 units in 2025, as rising Tamaraw output fails to fully offset lower Vios and Innova volumes.
TMP Senior Vice President Sherwin Chua Lim said the decline reflects a change in the production mix at its Santa Rosa, Laguna plant, where the three models share manufacturing capacity.
“Production is lower this year. Last year was around 63,500 units, so this year it goes to around 60,000,” Chua Lim said.
The Vios has seen the sharpest shift. Local production has fallen to about 1,300 units a month from roughly 3,000 previously as Toyota focuses the Philippine-made model on the lower-grade variant. The higher end of the segment is now served by the imported Ativ.
Tamaraw production, meanwhile, continues to climb, with TMP targeting a plant output of around 1,800 units a month. Innova production has also declined as the company reallocates capacity among the three models.
The change is reflected in year-to-date output. Tamaraw production reached 12,468 units by end-August, surpassing the Innova’s 7,432 units. Vios remained the largest locally produced model at 18,321 units.
Total production reached 38,221 units through August, down 10 percent from a year earlier.
The figures highlight a constraint in TMP’s manufacturing strategy. While demand for the Tamaraw has been strong enough to support higher production, the company cannot simply add units without affecting the output of the Vios or Innova because all three models share the same production capacity.
For TMP, therefore, the lower production target is less a sign of shrinking manufacturing operations than a reflection of where the company is choosing to deploy limited plant capacity.
