Luxury furniture maker DEDON Manufacturing Inc. has signed up as the first customer of COREnergy’s new solar-backed electricity plan, as manufacturers look for ways to better manage power costs and align energy procurement with daytime operations.
COREnergy, the retail electricity supplier of Vivant Energy, said its two-year retail electricity supply agreement with DEDON covers 0.55 megawatts of contracted capacity for the company’s manufacturing operations in Cebu.
Under COREnergy’s Sunshine Plan, customers get stable daytime electricity rates backed predominantly by solar generation. Power consumed outside solar hours, however, remains exposed to variable prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, leaving customers with some market-related price risk.
The structure is aimed at manufacturers whose facilities consume most of their electricity during daylight hours, when solar generation is available. By matching power supply with operating schedules, the plan seeks to give companies greater predictability over a portion of their electricity costs.
DEDON, founded in Germany in 1990, began manufacturing in Cebu in 1994, drawing on the province’s skilled weaving workforce. Its Philippine operations produce handcrafted outdoor furniture for homes, hotels, resorts, yachts and other hospitality destinations in more than 100 countries.
“As a manufacturing facility with significant daytime operations, the Sunshine Plan aligns well with our energy profile while supporting our ongoing sustainability initiatives,” DEDON Manufacturing General Director Rosy Grace Cabradilla said.
COREnergy Vice President and Head of Operations Marko Sarmiento said the company expects interest from other manufacturers with similar consumption patterns.
“There’s a growing segment of manufacturers whose operations are concentrated during the day, and we built this plan specifically for them,” Sarmiento said.
COREnergy plans to roll out the Sunshine Plan to more manufacturing customers in the coming months, positioning solar-backed supply as another option for businesses navigating volatile electricity markets.
