Government Service Insurance System President and General Manager Wick Veloso has been conferred the “Asia’s Modern Hero” award for distinguished public service and financial leadership, receiving the honor at the September 25, 2026 ceremony at Okada Manila organized by the Golden Icons Foundation and Asia’s Golden Icon Awards & Events Inc.
The recognition highlights GSIS’ strong performance under his leadership. First-half 2026 net income hit P94.75 billion, up 27.78 percent year-on-year; gross income reached P195.38 billion and total assets stood at P2.05 trillion as of June 30, with P94.67 billion paid out in claims and benefits. Veloso said the award inspires the team to do more, noting leadership is measured by lives touched through service. His flagship Balik Ginhawa program has returned nearly P20 billion to over 700,000 members across 1.6 million loan contracts as of September 22, easing household, education and medical expenses. GSIS has also introduced green loans for solar and electric mobility, while accelerating digitalization: GSIS Touch now has over two million registered users, with 99.6 percent of services available online for 24/7 access and fewer branch visits. Since assuming office in 2022, Veloso has leveraged decades of financial experience to grow the fund, boost investments, expand digital access, and translate financial strength into direct benefits for government workers and pensioners.
