Globe has rerouted data traffic across alternate links to maintain service after a subsea cable system was damaged, causing intermittent and slower browsing speeds for some mobile and broadband customers.
The break reduced available international bandwidth, leading to slower connections and lag on select online services. Since last night, Globe has leveraged built-in redundancies and other international routes to serve both residential and corporate users. Full repairs are estimated to take several weeks.
“Our teams are working continuously to ease congestion and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We are also working with partners to determine the exact cause of the disruption,” said Joel Agustin, SVP and Head of Network Planning and Engineering at Globe.
All core IT systems remain fully operational. An earlier issue affecting Android users during login to select apps has already been resolved.
