ERC clears BKS Green Energy’s transmission line for Isabela solar facility

Yuchengco-led BKS Green Energy Corp. has obtained official approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to build and operate a dedicated point-to-point transmission system supporting its 33.831-megawatt Limbauan Solar Project Phase 2 in San Pablo, Isabela.

Announced Monday, the P260-million facility comprises of a 13.2/69-kilovolt take-off substation with a 30/32-megavolt amperes transformer, protection and communication gear, a 4.4-kilometer single-circuit 69-kV transmission line, and a 69-kV switching station connecting to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ Tuguegarao–Cabagan line.

The plant benefits from a long-term fixed rate under the Department of Energy’s second Green Energy Auction Program. Construction in 2025 directly employed about 650 people—laborers, technicians, engineers and professionals—mostly from San Pablo and nearby Isabela towns.

Since sending power to the grid last December, the facility has generated 40,500 megawatt-hours, supplying electricity to an estimated 200,000 households and keeping 28,232 tons of carbon emissions out of the atmosphere.

BKS Green Energy is an operating arm of Rizal Green Energy Corp., a joint venture between PetroGreen Energy Corp. and Japan’s Taisei Corp. PetroGreen is a subsidiary of publicly listed PetroEnergy Resources Corp.

PetroEnergy’s portfolio also includes solar projects in Bohol, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac, plus the Maibarara geothermal facility in Batangas. The firm added it continues to oversee offshore oil interests in Gabon, with a third drilling phase targeted for completion by year-end to lift daily output from 15,000 to 18,000 barrels.
