Aboitiz Power sells power barges to MORE Power; Visayas supply, reliability to improve

Aboitiz Power Corp. sold two 121-MW power barges to Visayas distributor MORE Electric and Power Corp., completing the transfer last Friday and announcing it Monday. Terms were undisclosed.

The barges, docked at Navotas, have been mothballed since Feb. 2025—temporarily offline, not permanently shut down—due to technical and commercial limits. They can be restarted and deployed to boost Visayas’ own power capacity, cut reliance on outside supply, and deliver more stable electricity to local households and businesses.

Both firms are coordinating with DOE, ERC, IEMOP, and NGCP to meet all grid and regulatory rules. Aboitiz retains two other power barges (also 121-MW total) in operation. The sale aligns with its 2030 push to grow renewables while keeping thermal capacity for steady supply and peak demand.
