DOTr invites European investors to join PH transport projects

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is calling on European businesses to explore investment opportunities in the country’s transport infrastructure, with the goal of better mobility and easier daily commutes for Filipinos.

Speaking at the ASEAN 2026 Transportation Forum organized by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the agency remains optimistic that the private sector will recognize the value of these projects, which are designed to boost economic growth and address commuter concerns. He expressed hope that expanded public-private partnerships will help build a more efficient Philippine transportation system.

Undersecretary for Planning and Project Development Teodorico Delfin emphasized that partner countries and the business community play a key role in improving connectivity across the country. He noted that Secretary Lopez has directed the agency to speed up construction so that commuters feel the benefits sooner.

Delfin highlighted major projects including the Metro Manila Subway, the North-South Commuter Railway, and the proposed Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas Railway, which will connect key ports and economic centers across Luzon. Road-based improvements include the EDSA Busway, Cebu Bus Rapid Transit, and the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project. On the aviation front, completed and ongoing airport developments in Antique, Siargao, Laoag, Busuanga, Bicol, Bukidnon, Davao, and the privatization of NAIA, Laguindingan, and Bohol-Panglao airports were also presented.

“We need the private sector and our development partners,” Delfin said. “With partners like the ECCP and the European business community, we can connect more Filipinos to jobs and opportunities, move people and goods more efficiently, and strengthen the Philippines’ links with ASEAN and the wider world.”
