Great fried chicken may win hearts, but consistency keeps customers coming back for more.
At McDonald’s Philippines, that means the magic of Chicken McDo goes beyond the crunch. It takes skill, discipline and a team of restaurant crew members who know that getting every piece right is serious business.
That people-powered recipe for success took the spotlight on October 6, when McDonald’s crowned its first-ever Chicken McDo Legends, capping a nationwide competition launched in August that drew more than 800 Chicken McDo Experts from company-owned and franchised restaurants.
Taking home top honors were Michael Gomez of McDonald’s Quezon Ave.-Ligaya, Ken Eirod Toribio of McDonald’s San Vicente San Pedro, and Rowel Jhan Dave Limbago of McDonald’s Davao Sta. Ana. The three emerged as the country’s top Chicken McDo Experts, proving that behind a much-loved menu staple are crew members whose expertise deserves a moment in the spotlight.
The awards ceremony was simulcast across three McDonald’s branches, with celebrity endorser Vice Ganda hosting the culminating event at McKinley West. It was a celebration with a clear message: while the chicken gets the spotlight, the people behind the counter deserve their share of the applause, too.
And there is more to that signature crunch than meets the eye.
The competition put participants through their paces, testing their technical skills, product knowledge, food safety practices and ability to deliver McDonald’s gold standard of napakalaki at napakasarap Chicken McDo. In other words, serving up a crowd-pleaser takes more than knowing your way around a fryer. It calls for precision, consistency and a sharp eye for quality.
At least four Chicken McDo Experts are assigned to every restaurant to help maintain those standards. Their work is especially important for a product that remains one of McDonald’s biggest business contributors, buoyed by Filipinos’ enduring appetite for fried chicken and their equally strong expectations for quality.
Chicken McDo itself is backed by extensive product development and training, underscoring the operational discipline required to serve a familiar favorite to customers, one order at a time.
“Every Chicken McDo served represents the dedication and expertise of our restaurant teams,” said NJ Caballar-Azurin, McDonald’s Philippines senior brand manager.
Beyond crowning winners, the competition was designed to build crew pride, reinforce operational discipline and recognize the restaurant managers, supervisors and coaches who help develop employees’ skills. After all, even the best recipe needs people who know how to bring it to life consistently.
For McDonald’s Philippines, the first Chicken McDo Legends competition served up a reminder that brand love is built not only through memorable advertising or clever marketing, but also through the everyday work happening inside its kitchens.
The takeaway? Great chicken may bring customers to the table, but great people help keep the magic—and the crunch—coming.
