The Philippines is setting its sights firmly on Japan’s high-value horticulture market, using Green X Expo 2027 in Yokohama to boost exports, attract investment, and showcase the country’s shift toward climate-resilient agriculture.
Unveiled at the recent Pagsibol 2026 Summit, the Philippine Pavilion carries the theme “Bukás: Gardens of the Bayanihan Spirit,” running March 19 – September 26, 2027, in step with the expo’s global theme, “Scenery of the Future for Happiness.”
Japan is a key priority market — quality‑conscious, high‑spending, and consistently in demand. While Philippine tropical fruits are already well established there, ornamental horticulture stands out as a largely untapped growth area with strong profit potential. “We have a strong foothold in fruit exports, yet remain underrepresented in ornamentals — and that is where we see real room to grow,” said DA‑AMAS Director Junibert De Sagun.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. emphasized the broader message: “We want to showcase our biodiversity, green innovations, and what Filipino ingenuity and bayanihan can deliver.” The country will also highlight its move toward regenerative farming and its openness to long‑term partnerships and investment.
Visitors will find iconic Waling‑waling orchids, premium tropical fruits, and striking landscape concepts inspired by the Banaue Rice Terraces and Chocolate Hills, plus touches from the Pahiyas, Panagbenga, and Dinagyang festivals. More importantly, the mission goes beyond display: structured business matching and trade missions will directly connect Filipino farmers, agri‑MSMEs, and producers with Japanese buyers, distributors, and investors — turning participation into lasting commercial opportunities.
