MANILA, Philippines — In a historic milestone for the Philippine financial sector, Mynt, the operating entity behind the country’s leading fintech platform GCash, successfully staged the nation’s largest initial public offering to date, raising 60.9 billion pesos. The maiden share sale marked a defining moment for domestic capital markets, demonstrating how digital ecosystems can democratize investing and activate a new generation of retail investors.
During its trading debut, the stock demonstrated immediate resilience and strong market demand. Shares opened at 6.63 pesos apiece, edging past the initial offer price of 6.60 pesos, before climbing further to reach 6.71 pesos. The offer garnered widespread participation across the country, attracting approximately 140,000 subscribers directly through the app’s integrated trading feature, GStocks PH. Notably, between 8 percent and 10 percent of these participants were brand-new users who registered specifically to take part in the offering, while roughly 70 percent represented long-standing GCash customers of over two years.
Addressing reporters at a press briefing, Darvin Sy Su, General Manager for Wealth Management at GCash, emphasized that the public offering successfully drew beginner investors into the equities fold, fulfilling a core objective of the platform.
The sheer volume of individual participation underscores a broader shift in the local equity landscape. Unlike traditional stockbrokers that historically cater to high-net-worth clients, GStocks PH was purposely built to reach the mass retail market. Powered by AB Capital Securities Inc., the digital solution enables everyday users to register, trade shares listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange, and manage investments seamlessly without a mandatory minimum starting balance.
The significance of this listing extends far beyond a single corporate event, signaling a structural transformation for the broader Philippine stock market. GStocks PH currently serves over two million accounts via AB Capital Securities, representing a massive share of the country’s online trading community. According to the latest Philippine Stock Market Investor Profile report, total stock accounts surged by 27.3 percent to 3.64 million, driven predominantly by online retail accounts, which expanded by 30.5 percent year-on-year. Retail investors now account for 99.2 percent of all trading accounts in the country, with digital platforms and e-wallets serving as the primary growth driver.
By integrating equity investments directly into an everyday financial app, the record-breaking public offering proves that digital access can bridge the long-standing gap between ordinary citizens and capital growth opportunities, setting a new benchmark for financial inclusion and liquidity in the local stock exchange.
