Meralco Power Academy brings industry insights to 900 NEUST engineering students

Around 900 engineering students from the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology learned firsthand about the changing power industry through PowerConvos, a lecture series by the Meralco Power Academy. Held last September, the event featured leaders from across the Meralco Group who shared real-world expertise, career advice, and core values that will help aspiring engineers succeed.

Speakers discussed key challenges and opportunities in the energy sector, as well as the practical skills and personal qualities that matter most in building a career. MPower Senior Vice President Redel Domingo reminded students that strong character matters just as much as academic achievement, noting that grades reflect performance on a test day while character guides how you solve problems when no instructions are given. MGreen President Dennis Jordan shared his experience leading the MTerra Solar facility, the country’s largest integrated solar and battery complex, describing it as a long-term engineering feat that will serve communities for decades. Meralco Vice President Ma. Cecilia Domingo also highlighted that education paired with discipline prepares future professionals to meet real-world challenges.

Beyond technical knowledge, the program aims to instill resilience, adaptability, and dedication in future energy workers. By connecting classroom learning with industry experience, the Meralco Power Academy continues to strengthen links between schools and the energy sector, helping develop the next generation of leaders for the Philippines’ power industry.
