P&G Philippines and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) are preparing 90,000 health and hygiene relief kits for disaster-prone communities, extending a partnership aimed at keeping essential supplies accessible when emergencies disrupt daily life.
Under the second year of the P&G CARES program, 27,000 kits have already been packed and deployed for pre-positioning, allowing supplies to be placed closer to communities before disasters strike. Packing of the full batch is expected to be completed in January, with distribution to be coordinated through PRC regional chapters.
Each kit contains health and hygiene products from P&G brands, including Safeguard, Tide, Head & Shoulders and Vicks. The supplies are intended to help families maintain basic hygiene and personal care during typhoons, floods and other emergencies, when access to everyday necessities can become difficult.
The initiative builds on the program’s first year, launched to mark P&G’s 90th anniversary in the Philippines. During that period, it reached 90,000 families nationwide, with more than 660 company employee volunteers participating in kit-packing activities.
Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard Gordon said the partnership complements the organization’s relief operations by supplying essential health and hygiene products to affected households.
“By working together, we can help ensure that assistance reaches communities when they need it most,” Gordon said, highlighting the importance of timely support when disasters disrupt normal routines.
P&G Philippines President and General Manager Agraj Sharma said the initiative gives employees an opportunity to support communities through products made by the company. He also pointed to the Red Cross’s disaster-response experience and regional network as important to preparing and delivering assistance.
The program’s emphasis on pre-positioning reflects a practical challenge in disaster response: getting essential items to affected families when transport, access and local services may be disrupted.
While the planned 90,000 kits extend the companies’ relief effort, their impact will ultimately depend on how quickly supplies reach vulnerable households and how effectively distribution matches needs on the ground.
P&G CARES forms part of the companies’ broader effort to support communities in preparing for and recovering from disasters.
