The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has thrown its support behind wider use of statistical data to guide policy moves and help push the country’s economic and industrial expansion forward, during the closing program of the 37th National Statistics Month held at the central bank’s main office in Manila.
This year’s October‑long observance carried the theme “Tuklas Pilipinas: Statistics as Beacon Towards Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Tourism,” highlighting how reliable numbers can steer progress across key business sectors. BSP Assistant Governor Rogelio V. Mercado, Jr. from the Monetary Policy Sub‑sector explained that timely, detailed and credible data form a strong foundation for industry growth and overall economic performance. He noted that statistics give a clear picture of the country’s current standing as well as its possible future path, adding that within the BSP itself, data shapes well‑informed policy choices meant to support broader inclusive and sustainable growth across industries including tourism.
The closing ceremony was attended by Philippine Statistics Authority Assistant Secretary Rosalinda P. Bautista, BSP Department of Economic Statistics Officer‑in‑Charge Haydee R. Paulino, together with representatives from local government units and academic institutions. As part of the event, the PSA gave recognition to government bodies, private organizations and other partners for their work in building better statistical systems and encouraging policymakers to make good use of available data.
BSP and the PSA have worked together on the National Statistics Month since 2001 to spread access to accurate, complete, timely and easy‑to‑use statistical information across the nation. National Statistics Month is marked every October under Presidential Proclamation No. 647 issued on September 20, 1990.
