Motorcycle sales rebound 8.1% in Q3 to 524,860 units

Motorcycle sales among the country’s four major manufacturers rebounded in the third quarter of 2026, rising 8.1 percent year-on-year to 524,860 units as stronger monthly volumes in August and September reversed the previous quarter’s contraction.

The July-to-September sales of members of the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) increased from 485,690 units a year earlier, bringing cumulative sales for the first nine months to 1,464,388 units, up 5.1 percent from 1,392,744 units in the same period last year.

The recovery followed a 4.2-percent decline in the second quarter, which interrupted an 11.6-percent expansion in the first three months of the year.

September recorded the highest monthly sales volume for the first nine months of 2026, with successive gains in August and September providing the momentum for the quarterly rebound, the association said.

Automatic motorcycles remained the industry’s dominant segment, accounting for about 73.6 percent of MDPPA members’ third-quarter sales. Their continued popularity underscores the importance of the automatic category to overall market demand.

“The rebound in the third quarter is an encouraging sign for the industry, especially with the stronger performance we saw in August and September,” MDPPA President Erwin Estrada said.

“This renewed momentum gives us confidence as we enter the final quarter, and we remain optimistic that the industry is on track to reach its sales targets by the end of 2026,” he added.

The association did not disclose its full-year sales target.

Despite the quarterly recovery, the industry’s growth remains uneven. The third-quarter expansion restored some momentum after the second-quarter setback, but remained below the pace recorded in the first quarter.

MDPPA’s figures cover sales reported by its four member manufacturers, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha, and do not represent the entire Philippine motorcycle market.
