Listed aviation services group MacroAsia Corp. said Liufthansa Technik Philippines, its aircraft maintenance joint venture with Lufthansa Technik AG of Germany, is studying building a two-bay hangar for maintenance, repair and overhaul services in Clark Airport.
MarcoAsia told the Philippine Stock Exchange that the project, if it pushes through, will require investments of around USD100 million.
Lufthansa Technik AG owns 51 percent of LTP and the balance of 49 percent is held by MacroAsia.
“Since the 2-bay hangar study is still ongoing, LTP has yet to submit this for board and shareholders’ approval. The hangar is envisioned to accommodate base maintenance services for wide-body aircraft like the A380, as LTP has been facing huge market demand for its base maintenance services,” said MacroAsia, a company owned by the Lucio Tan Group.
LTP currently has three hangars that could service both wide body and narrow-body aircraft, including Airbus’ A380 and Boeing’s B777, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport but that facility is already running at capacity despite the recent construction of hangar 1A.
It has been looking at other locations to service its expanding client base of international airlines, and Clark International Airport seems a logical choice give its proximity to Metro Manila.
