The National Teachers College (NTC) has tapped ACEN Corp. retail arm ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) for the supply of renewable energy to the learning institution.
“We are incredibly proud to partner with NTC in their journey towards a greener future. This collaboration serves as a powerful testament to the growing commitment of educational institutions to environmentalresponsibility. ACEN RES is firmly dedicated to empowering
organizations like NTC with clean and sustainable energy solutions,” said Eric Francia, ACEN president and chief executive officer, in a statement.
The NTC’s shift to renewable energy was facilitated by the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP) of the government which allows qualified consumers to purchase electricity directly from licensed renewable energy suppliers like ACEN RES.
The GEOP is marketed as a cost-effective energy procurement service compared to traditional distribution utilities.
The parties did not disclose specific terms of the supply contract.
“A part of our mission is to encourage more businesses to be sustainable. We believe that transitioning to renewable energy is a quick win for companies aspiring to accelerate their sustainability journey because power is among the primary drivers of cost and carbon emissions across industries,” said Tony Valdez, ACEN senior vice president for market transformation, in a statement.
With GEOP, customers no longer have to spend for the installation of new equipment like solar panels or worry about maintenance and disruption to their operations as they only have to choose a reputable and reliable energy partner.
NTC is a higher education institution providing accessible quality education and training to future educators and professionals across various disciplines.
In 2018, NTC officially became part of AC Education, the education arm of Ayala Corp. AC Education was later merged with iPeople, a partnership between the Yuchengco Group of Companies and Ayala Corp., which aims to deliver accessible and quality education.
ACEN is one of the fastest growing renewable energy platforms in Asia Pacific.
It has effectively achieved its goal of generating 5 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2025 with attributable capacity of 4.7 GW of installed projects and 1 GW of signed contracts or won competitive bids.
ACEN aims to increase its renewable capacity to 20 GW by 2030 to help provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy to more people and to also become a net zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2050.
Apart from the Philippines, ACEN also has projects in Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, India, United States and Taiwan.
