Complete Iloilo coal plant repairs could take longer than seen earlier

The Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC) in Iloilo, out of commission since mid-February this year, bared the completion of repairs later than originally expected, the company said in a statement.

There were hopes of putting back the 135-megawatt coal-fired power plant back on line sooner but according to the power firm, while preliminary repairs being done at its facilities by the British firm Quartzelec Ltd. should soon complete, full power restoration is projected as early as August this year.

PCPC officials acknowledged having done preliminary repairs started in June to re-insulate damaged coils enabling the power plant to come back on line the soonest to ensure electricity supply to Panay Island.

However, the PCPC said more thorough repairs will instead be conducted concurrently with its annual preventive maintenance scheduled from October to November 2025 to allow for lead time in the manufacture of replacement parts from overseas suppliers.

“We have notified various stakeholders across the energy sector and the government on this significant update,” the company said.

The PCPC is a joint venture between Palm Thermal Consolidated Holdings Corp., a subsidiary of A Brown Co. Inc., and Jin Navitas Resource Inc.
