Solar firm looks to add 250 MW to Luzon grid

Renewable energy developer NKS Solar One Inc. is seeking Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approval for the construction of a dedicated point-to-point transmission facility connecting its power plants in Laguna to the Luzon grid.

The company said the two-phased, P1.62 billion project will connect floating solar power plants to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP) substations.

The plan proposes to connect both the 162-megawatt Caliraya floating solar and the 88-MW Lumot floating solar project to the NGCP.

Phase One starts with the 162-MW line to connect to NGCP’s 230 kilovolt (kV) Lumban substation through a 6-kilometer, 230 kV double circuit transmission line.

The second phase of the project will connect the 88-MW line to the NKS Caliraya substation also through a 6-kilometer, 230 kV double circuit transmission line.

NKS said it will issue an invitation to bid the project’s engineering, procurement and construction which will consider contractors including but not limited to China Machinery Engineering Group Corp., Hefty Power Systems Corp., Power Dimension Inc., and Sta. Clara International Corp.

The ERC has scheduled a pre-trial conference meant to determine company compliance with jurisdictional requirements, expository presentation on 5 August 2024.
