ACEN units transition to renewable energy

Healthway Medical Network, a unit of AC Health, has tapped ACEN Corp.’s retail electricity arm ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) to supply a number of its medical facilities with renewable energy.

The company said the supply agreement includes Healthway QualiMed Hospital Santa Rosa, Healthway QualiMed Manila and Healthway Cancer Care Hospital in Arca South, Taguig City.

Three other facilities transitioning to renewable energy form part of the agreement and include Healthway QualiMed Hospital San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan, Healthway Daniel O. Mercado Medical Center and FEU-NRMF Medical Center in Quezon City.

“By embracing renewable energy, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also doing our part to ensure a healthier planet for future generations. We are continuously improving our integrated waste management practices to reduce environmental impact across all our operations,” said Paolo Borromeo, AC Health president and chief executive officer, in a regulatory filing at the Philippine Stock Exchange.

AC Health said the shift to renewable energy is part of its commitment to environmental responsibility and patient well-being in light of the growing evidence linking environmental pollution and climate change to numerous health issues.

“Our partnership with AC Health exemplifies how renewable energy can enhance essential services like healthcare. By powering AC Health’s facilities with clean energy, we are reducing their environmental impact while supporting their mission of improving health outcomes. This collaboration reinforces our shared vision of creating a more sustainable future for the country,” said Eric Francia, ACEN president and chief executive officer.

By switching to renewable energy, AC Health facilities are estimated to avoid 68,360 tons of carbon dioxide emissions throughout the contract period equivalent to the amount of emissions absorbed by approximately 3.1 million trees in a year.

ACEN as a group is one of the fastest growing renewable energy platforms in Asia Pacific.

With the agreement, ACEN RES effectively achieved its goal of generating 5,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity ahead of its 2025 target. It now has an attributable capacity of 4,700 MW of installed projects and 1,000 MW of signed agreements won from competitive bids.

ACEN plans to increase its capacity to 20,000 MW by 2030 and be a net zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2050.

Apart from the Philippines, ACEN also has projects in Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, India, United States and Taiwan.
