Damage to agriculture resulting from the combined impact of the southwest monsoon and Tropical Storm Ferdie is estimated at P107 million, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The agency’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center on Thursday reported 4,749 metric tons of farm goods damaged by errant weather in 1,646 hectares of farmland tended by 1,327 farmers and fisherfolk across the regions.
The bulk or 4,340 metric tons of rice worth an estimated P98.34 million had been damaged. Another 335 MT of corn worth P6.06 million was laid waste.
This was on top of 74 MT of high value crops worth an estimated P2.99 million damaged alongside P29,000 worth of livestock and poultry.
