NLEX Corp. secures P10B loan to fund expansion and refine infrastructure

NLEX Corporation has secured a P10 billion, 10-year term loan from China Banking Corporation to support its ongoing expansion and infrastructure improvement projects. The loan will be directed toward funding the company’s capital expenditure program and refinancing maturing debts.

“The loan proceeds will fund NLEX Corporation’s capital expenditure program and refinance its maturing debt. This will help us accomplish our targets – to provide better infrastructure and improve the travel experience of our motorists,” said Rogelio S. Singson, president and CEO of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the parent company of NLEX.

A portion of the loan will be allocated to the completion of the Candaba 3rd Viaduct, which is 95 percent completed. NLEX is targeting the viaduct’s full delivery before the Christmas rush. Once completed, the viaduct will enhance travel safety and efficiency along the expressway.

The tollway section between Pulilan and parts of Apalit is already operational, with only 1.2 kilometers of the bridge remaining under construction. The Candaba 3rd Viaduct is expected to significantly improve travel times, while facilitating the more efficient transport of goods and services, thus contributing to economic growth, according to Singson.

“We have always been committed to seeking innovative ways to continuously improve our services, because the end goal is to contribute to our country’s economy and help improve the quality of life of every Filipino,” Singson said.

NLEX Corporation, which operates approximately 105 kilometers of expressways, reported a robust financial performance for the first half of 2024. The company posted a net income of P5.6 billion, up 24 percent from P4.51 billion during the same period in 2023. Revenue also increased by 20 percent, reaching P12.4 billion, driven by higher traffic volume, toll rate adjustments, and the added revenue stream from the newly opened NLEX-SLEX Connector Road.

The NLEX and SCTEX networks combined serve over 323,000 vehicles daily, spanning a total of 196 kilometers across strategic locations such as the special economic zones of Subic, Clark, and Tarlac.
