Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) subsidiary MSpectrum Inc. has launched a new solar rooftop facility for General Trias Water Corp. (GTWC), a pioneering project that promises to reduce costs and carbon emissions while boosting sustainability efforts.
The ₱2.5-million installation, completed in late 2024, features a 33 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar power system designed to energize GTWC’s water pumping station in Cavite. The system is expected to generate approximately 45,350 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, reducing the utility’s reliance on traditional grid power.
GTWC became the first water utility in the region to incorporate solar energy into its operations. The company will see a significant reduction in its carbon footprint—estimated at 32.3 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. This is equivalent to the environmental impact of planting over 1,400 trees or taking more than 79,000 kilometers off the road each year.
MSpectrum COO Patrick Panlilio highlighted the importance of the project, saying, “We proudly celebrate the turnover of this solar power system that will not only help GTWC achieve its sustainability goals but also realize long-term savings on electricity costs.”
While the exact savings from the project were not disclosed, experts suggest that solar installations typically yield substantial reductions in energy bills over time. GTWC, a long-standing water utility serving Cavite and surrounding provinces, is the latest in a growing list of companies embracing clean energy solutions for operational efficiency.
MSpectrum’s solar portfolio includes over 80 megawatts of rooftop installations, benefiting large-scale commercial and industrial clients such as Philip Morris, Toyota, and PLDT. As solar technology becomes more accessible, companies like GTWC are paving the way for sustainable, cost-efficient operations.
