Malacañang: SolGen must assess fitness as chief govt lawyer

Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra should take a long hard look whether he is still fit to be the chief counsel of government, Malacanan press officer Claire Castro told a Palace briefing. She said OSG’s decision to recuse from representing government officials in the habeas corpus petitions filed by Duterte camp is an apparent refusal to do his job. OSG told the Supreme Court that it has been its firm position that the ICC is barred from exercising jurisdiction over the Philippines and that the country’s investigative, prosecutorial, and judicial system is functioning as it should and as such “the OSG may not be able to effectively represent Respondents (Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and three others) in these cases and is constrained to recuse itself from participating herein.”
