FPH joins DENR “Forests for Life” initiative to boost reforestation efforts

First Philippine Holdings Corporation (FPH) has committed to participating in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) “Forests for Life” program, which aims to plant 10 million trees over the next three years. The program, launched to help combat climate change, will focus on reforesting critical areas across the Philippines, contributing to the sequestration of approximately 6.5 million tons of carbon dioxide by 2038.

FPH’s involvement, formalized in a memorandum of understanding signed by chairman Federico R. Lopez and DENR secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, underscores the company’s commitment to climate resilience, sustainable forest management, and environmental protection. The initiative will target flood-prone regions and vital watersheds in areas such as Ilocos Norte, Rizal, Leyte, and Bukidnon, with the goal of restoring local ecosystems and protecting biodiversity.

Leveraging its experience with the internationally recognized Project BINHI, a reforestation program by FPH’s subsidiary, Energy Development Corp., the company aims to restore and protect native species. Project BINHI has already rehabilitated over 10,000 hectares of land, planting nearly 7 million trees, and supporting biodiversity.

This partnership aligns with FPH’s long-term collaboration with the DENR on various environmental initiatives, including marine ecosystem conservation efforts in the Verde Island Passage and the multi-stakeholder Project TRANSFORM. Through these programs, FPH is advancing a regenerative future for the Philippines.
