Globe is rolling out RuralLink, a cost-efficient, eco-friendly technology designed to overcome the barriers to mobile coverage in rural communities. By merging multiple antennas into a compact unit, the solution reduces both the capital and operational costs typically associated with large-scale telecom infrastructure. The rollout of RuralLink will begin with 20 locations, with further expansion planned.
The system not only addresses the digital divide but also reduces Globe’s carbon footprint. RuralLink consumes 65 percent less power than traditional macro sites, cutting down on approximately 4,800 kg of CO2 emissions per site annually. The technology’s smaller size and lighter build make it more efficient, requiring less material and reducing installation time and costs.
“Providing connectivity to all Filipinos demands solutions that are both cost-efficient and eco-friendly,” said Joel Agustin, Globe head of service planning and engineering. This initiative marks a significant step toward sustainable, inclusive digital growth across the Philippines.
