ACEN Corp., the green energy arm of the Ayala Group, said its wholly-owned unit, ACEN Australia, has secured access rights to the Central West-Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ) for projects in New South Wales, which includes power generation from solar and wind energy.
The three major projects are the 920-megaWatt Valley of the Winds wind farm, the 600 MW alternating current (equivalent to 780 MW direct current) Birriwa Solar facility, and the 600 MW/2-hour Birriwa Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The projects will be connected to the new CWO REZ transmission line, developed by ACE-REZ on behalf of the New South Wales Government after a competitive tender.
The Birriwa Solar and BESS projects received approval from the New South Wales Department of Planning in August 2024, while the Valley of the Winds project is in the final stage of the development planning review process.
This development follows ACEN Australia’s successful closure of a AUD750 million portfolio debt refinancing last month, establishing a robust independent regional funding platform.
David Pollington, managing director of ACEN Australia, said that securing access rights for these high-value projects underscores the company’s disciplined approach to development and strengthens its position as a trusted partner in Australia’s clean economy. He highlighted the company’s commitment to regional investment, job creation, and responsible project development across New South Wales and beyond.
The CWO REZ is a strategic initiative by the New South Wales Government to facilitate the development of renewable energy projects and enhance the state’s energy resilience and security. The access rights secured by ACEN Australia mark a significant step in the company’s strategic growth and diversification in the Australian market.
