GMA Network delivers strong Q1 on political ads, tight cost control

GMA Network Inc. reported a 293 percent surge in net income for the first quarter of 2025, fueled by a robust recovery in advertising revenue ahead of the May mid-term elections. The broadcasting giant posted a net profit of ₱801.68 million for the January to March period, sharply higher than the ₱204.12 million recorded in the same quarter last year.

In a disclosure, the company said consolidated revenue rose 28 percent to ₱4.68 billion, compared to ₱3.65 billion in the first quarter of 2024. Advertising revenue, which comprises over 90 percent of total sales, soared to ₱4.33 billion, marking a 29 percent year-on-year increase.

“Television and radio broadcasting both enjoyed upbeat sales, buoyed by the influx of political advocacies and advertisements in view of the upcoming midterm elections this May,” GMA said. Flagship channel GMA 7 registered double-digit increase, with both political and regular client placements contributing to the gains.

Consumer sales also showed strength, climbing 18 percent to ₱345.85 million from ₱293.17 million a year ago.

While consolidated operating expenses edged up 5 percent to ₱3.65 billion, GMA said cost growth was significantly outpaced by revenue expansion, reflecting operational efficiency. The rise in expenses was attributed to higher production and direct costs, with general and administrative expenses playing a lesser role.

The earnings rebound highlights GMA Network’s resilience and strategic positioning during politically active periods, underscoring the continuing importance of election cycles to the Philippine media and advertising landscape.
