Alas Pilipinas’ historic run at the 2025 AVC Women’s Nations Cup ended Saturday night with a silver medal after a 3-set sweep by host Vietnam in the gold medal match.
The Filipinas, who outlasted Chinese Taipei in a thrilling five-set semifinal game Friday night, faced a formidable opponent in Vietnam, ranked 26th in the world, 21 notches higher. Vietnam’s dominance was evident as they clinched the match with set scores of 25-15, 25-17, and 25-14.
Vietnam’s N.T.B. Tuyen and T.T.T. Thuy led the charge, contributing 20 and 17 points respectively.
The host team showcased its prowess with 49 attacks, 9 blocks, and 7 service aces, while Alas Pilipinas struggled with 13 errors.
Despite the loss, the Filipinas achieved their best-ever finish in the AVC, surpassing their bronze medal from last year’s AVC Challenge Cup in Manila.
Alyssa Solomon and Shaina Nitura were the top scorers for Alas Pilipinas, with 8 and 6 points respectively.
Individual accolades were also earned: Angel Canino was named best outside hitter, Dell Palomata received best middle blocker honors, and team captain Jia de Guzman was recognized as best setter.
This silver medal in the just concluded AVC Nations Cup underscores the continued progress of Philippine women’s volleyball under head coach Jorge Souza de Brito.
