Grab Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Department of Transportation (DOTr), and property giant Megaworld Corp., has launched a pilot program to test drone-powered commercial deliveries in the Philippines. The initiative aims to evaluate how unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can improve urban logistics, especially in traffic-congested cities like Metro Manila.
The study will trial a hybrid delivery system: drones will handle the middle leg of deliveries between two Megaworld townships, while Grab’s delivery-partners manage pickups and final drop-offs at dedicated drone landing stations. The pilot is initially limited to select consumers and merchants.
Grab Philippines managing director Ronald Roda emphasized the potential of drone deliveries to transform logistics in both dense and underserved areas, calling the study a step toward co-creating smarter, faster, and more inclusive delivery solutions.
DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said drone logistics could help reimagine urban mobility and reduce road congestion, while DICT Undersecretary Christina Faye Condez-de Sagon highlighted the government’s role in guiding responsible innovation aligned with the country’s digital goals.
Megaworld Lifestyle Malls executive Tyrone Tan noted the pilot supports their vision of building smarter, future-ready cities.
If successful, the pilot could pave the way for wider commercial drone use in the Philippines and the creation of aerial delivery corridors to ease pressure on traditional transport systems.
