Minimal loss in rice sector due Bising, habagat

The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Wednesday reported an initial P300,000 in damages to the rice sector due to Typhoon Bising and the southwest monsoon (Habagat). According to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center, the damage area spans over 25 hectares in the Calabarzon, affecting 13 farmers and resulting in a 29-metric-ton volume loss.

While these are preliminary figures, more losses are expected as field assessments continue. In response, DA regional offices are actively evaluating damage and coordinating interventions. Assistance includes the distribution of rice, corn, and vegetable seeds, access to the Quick Response Fund, and zero-interest loans of up to P25,000 through the Agricultural Credit Policy Council. Affected insured farmers may also claim indemnities via the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp.
