The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) reported a 5.49 percent increase in transmission rates for the June 2025 supply month, driven by a 9.32 percent hike in ancillary services (AS) costs. The adjustment raises the transmission charge to P1.2113/kWh, up from P1.1482/kWh in May, impacting household and business electricity bills, particularly those of Meralco customers, who will see a P0.0734/kWh increase this July.
AS costs, which support grid reliability during outages, rose to P0.6182/kWh. The NGCP emphasized that it does not profit from AS, as payments go directly to contracted generators.
Additionally, transmission wheeling rates, or fees for delivering electricity, rose modestly by 0.39 percent to P0.4611/kWh.
In a significant regulatory move, the NGCP will begin collecting P28 billion in ERC-approved under recoveries starting in the July billing cycle. Consumers will see a new line item on their power bills starting August, reflecting a P0.0384/kWhcharge over 84 months (until June 2032).
The NGCP welcomed the decision, citing long-delayed cost recoveries linked to system investments made since 2016.
