Buses now allowed to stop at NIA Road

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the issuance of special permits for 268 buses operating from Sapang Palay to Fairview, allowing them to pick up and drop off passengers at NIA Road in Quezon City.

The move, aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve commuter convenience, aims to shorten walking distances for passengers transferring to MRT-3, particularly benefiting seniors and persons with disabilities.

“These adjustments are meant to ease the daily struggles of commuters,” Lopez said, noting he has personally experienced the inconvenience of long walks between transport points.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) issued the special permits following Lopez’s directive. The buses will follow a loop route from Sapang Palay via Commonwealth Avenue, East Avenue, Internal Road, NIA Road, and back.

While boarding and alighting at NIA Road is now allowed, buses are prohibited from parking or ending their routes there. To enforce this, four Philippine Coast Guard personnel and four LTO enforcers will be stationed in the area to ensure buses stay only up to three minutes.

Honking will also be restricted to avoid disturbing nearby residential and office buildings.

For now, the NIA Road stop will operate during rush hours only—4:00–8:00 AM and 5:00–8:00 PM—for the month of October, pending review and possible extension.
