Mets cold storage shifts to RE with First Gen

Mets Cold Storage Services, Inc. has signed a supply agreement with First Gen Corp. to shift its cold storage facility in Cagayan de Oro to renewable energy, marking a major move toward sustainable operations.

Under the deal, First Gen will supply up to 2,050 kilowatts of geothermal power to support the expansion of Mets’ facility in Tablon, which currently boasts over 7,100 metric tons of storage capacity. The geothermal energy will come from the Mt. Apo Geothermal Power Plant in Cotabato, operated by First Gen’s subsidiary, Energy Development Corp. (EDC).

“This move will reduce not just our energy cost but our carbon footprint as well,” said Mets COO Donna Robles.

Founded in 2010, Mets operates cold storage facilities across Cavite, Bulacan, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro, with over 100,000 pallet positions. The facilities support storage, blast freezing, and toll processing for food and pharmaceutical supply chains.

First Gen, a leader in renewable energy, manages over 1,200 MW of geothermal capacity and more than 400 MW of hydro, wind, and solar. The company also runs gas-fired plants totaling 2,017 MW through its partnership with Prime Infrastructure Capital, ensuring grid reliability alongside its green energy portfolio.
