New 40-MW power deal boosts Palawan electricity

The Palawan Electric Cooperative (Paleco) and Vivant Energy Corp., through its subsidiary Delta P Inc., have started implementing a 40-megawatt (MW) power supply agreement in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

The supply forms part of a 15-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) signed in 2024 following a competitive selection process.

In a joint statement released Monday, the companies said the 40 MW marks the start of a phased rollout aimed at providing more stable and affordable electricity in the province.

Paleco said the agreement is expected to lead to lower electricity rates for its member-consumer-owners (MCOs), as Delta P will recover only the subsidized, approved generation rate. The cooperative also said that consumers may receive refunds and further reductions in their bills through the universal charge for missionary electrification.

“Through this transition, Paleco assures local citizens that we are keeping our promise of delivering reliable service, stable power, and lower rates as we move toward Palawan’s development,” said Paleco general manager Rez Contrivida.

Vivant Energy, the energy investment arm of Vivant Corporation, said the agreement addresses rising power demand in Paleco’s franchise area, particularly from the accommodation and food service sectors. The company currently has a total energy capacity of around 382 MW and is among the largest power providers in off-grid areas in the Philippines.
