Copper cable heist foiled in Makati

A joint operation by PLDT Inc. and the Makati City Police led to the arrest of six individuals attempting to steal nearly two tons of underground copper cables along Kalayaan Avenue, Barangay Olympia.

The suspects, disguised as water utility workers, used fake signage, contractor uniforms, and professional tools.

One was found inside a manhole during the operation. Recovered items included bolt cutters, metal saws, warning devices, and 96 meters of cut PLDT copper cables.

The suspects were taken to the Makati Police Station for inquest proceedings, with support from PLDT’s Greater Metro Manila South (GMM South) Asset Protection Division.

PLDT emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration in protecting critical infrastructure, citing this incident as part of its ongoing efforts to secure its nationwide network in partnership with local authorities and stakeholders.

These efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), promoting community safety, digital inclusion, and resilient infrastructure.
