The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Monday that train services along the Naga–Legazpi route have been temporarily suspended after a bridge was damaged by the super typhoon that hit on November 9.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the DOTr to speed up the repair work while ensuring the safety of passengers and Philippine National Railways (PNR) personnel.
Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez directed the PNR to immediately assess the damage. He said engineers are on standby and will begin inspection once weather and safety conditions allow.
About 400 passengers use the Naga–Legazpi route daily. To help affected commuters, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will deploy additional public utility vehicles in the area.
The PNR will also inspect the entire Bicol commuter train network to check for other possible damages.
“The DOTr and PNR will continue to provide updates once the assessment has been completed,” Lopez said.
