San Miguel Corp. is strengthening support for micro, small, and medium enterprises through a partnership with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Philippines aimed at expanding business linkages, supply-chain opportunities, and access to regional markets.
SMC, a Titanium Partner and one of the principal private-sector supporters of ASEAN-BAC Philippines during the Philippines’ 2026 ASEAN Chairship, formalized the partnership through a memorandum of understanding signed by ASEAN-BAC Chair Jose Ma. Concepcion III and SMC Chairman and CEO Ramon Ang.
The partnership will focus on MSME and entrepreneur development under ASEAN-BAC’s People pillar, which covers entrepreneurship, workforce development, and youth development.
It will also seek to connect smaller businesses to larger supply chains, markets, and investment opportunities. Better access to these networks could help MSMEs expand their customer base, increase production, and participate more actively in regional trade.
The collaboration supports SMC’s broader engagement with ASEAN-BAC priorities covering food security, sustainability, infrastructure, digital transformation, and regional economic integration.
SMC will support major ASEAN-BAC activities, including the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2026, ASEAN Business Awards 2026, PH-ASEAN Business Forum 2026, council meetings, and selected thematic summits and dialogues.
The partnership comes as businesses across Southeast Asia seek stronger supply chains and new markets. Philippine MSMEs could benefit from greater regional integration, although many still face challenges involving financing, technology, market access, and the capacity needed to meet the requirements of larger companies.
The initiative therefore places emphasis on creating practical business connections rather than simply promoting MSME participation in regional events.
ASEAN-BAC Executive Director Patrick Chua, San Miguel Foundation Chairman Cecile Ang, and SMC Executive Director Kin Lichauco witnessed the signing.
The partnership comes ahead of major ASEAN-BAC activities in November, when the Philippines will host key business events under its ASEAN Chairship.
The collaboration gives SMC an opportunity to support MSMEs as they seek to become part of wider regional supply chains and markets. Its success, however, will ultimately depend on whether those connections translate into actual business opportunities, investments, and growth for smaller enterprises.
