Negros Power signs 20 MW supply pact with Aboitiz Power

Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) has secured a 20-megawatt (MW) power supply agreement (PSA) with Aboitiz Power Corp. The deal, signed on November 13, aims to provide Central Negros with a more stable, sustainable, and cost-efficient electricity supply.

Aboitiz Power’s Therma Visayas unit won the contract through a competitive bidding process conducted by Negros Power. Under local regulations, distribution utilities like Negros Power can only negotiate directly with power producers after at least two failed bidding attempts.

Roel Castro, Negros Power president and CEO, said the long-term agreement is key to meeting the region’s rising electricity demand, noting the utility’s customer base grew from 220,000 to 245,000 in one year. “A proper supply strategy ensures we can meet the increasing demand and provide reliable service for our communities,” he said.

James Yu, Aboitiz Power head of revenue operations, highlighted the importance of securing power supply, especially after recent typhoons and natural calamities.

Negros Power serves over 220,000 customers in Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, Silay, and nearby municipalities. Aboitiz Power aims to expand its renewable energy capacity to 4,600 MW by 2030 as part of a broader 9,200 MW energy portfolio, combining renewables and thermal power to support the country’s energy needs.
