DOE backs major renewable energy plans in Agusan del Norte

The Department of Energy (DOE) is supporting several key energy initiatives in Agusan del Norte as the province seeks greater energy self-sufficiency. Already achieving 100 percent household electrification, the province plans to install solar rooftop systems on government buildings, hospitals, and key facilities.

During a recent meeting, provincial officials presented a 457.97 MW energy development plan featuring wind, hydro, and solar projects. DOE Undersecretary Mylene Capongcol highlighted the province’s push for indigenous renewable solutions as a model for national energy security.

Agusan del Norte aims to add 325.07 MW of renewable energy capacity, including 236 MW of wind, 30 MW of hydropower, and 11.07 MW of solar, supported by a 48-MW battery storage system and seven new transmission projects to strengthen the Mindanao grid.
