SM to open Cebu convention center in 2026

SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC), the hospitality arm of SM Prime Holdings Inc., is ramping up its nationwide MICE—meetings, incentives, conventions and events–footprint with the upcoming SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu, set to open in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Backed by a P3.6-billion investment, the new hub will be one of the largest MICE venues in the Visayas, offering over 21,000 square meters of leasable space across six levels and seating for more than 18,000 guests. Its launch will expand SMX’s total convention portfolio to over 80,000 square meters across 10 sites, nearly doubling the current 42,000-square-meter network.

The growing lineup includes the planned SMXCITE in Pasay, as well as established centers such as SMX Manila, SMX Aura, SMX Bacolod, SMX Davao, SMX Clark, SMX Olongapo, Skyhall Seaside Cebu, and Megatrade Hall.

“This regional expansion reaffirms our position as the largest private convention center network in the Philippines,” said Peggy Angeles, SMHCC Executive Vice President. “After recent events, we hope SMX Seaside Cebu will play a meaningful role in revitalizing the province’s tourism and business landscape.”

Early demand is strong. Philconstruct Cebu has booked November 2026, while Wofex Visayas is slated for April 2027, signaling robust interest from regional MICE organizers.

The facility emphasizes safety and resilience, adhering to updated national building codes and seismic standards. Regular inspections, evacuation drills, and clearly marked emergency systems ensure preparedness for natural hazards.

SMX Seaside Cebu anchors South Coast City, SM Prime’s 26-hectare master-planned estate that also features the upcoming SM Seaside City Arena. Cebu’s strong tourism draw, international airport connectivity and top-10 economic ranking reinforce its rise as a business hub.

The project aligns with SM Prime’s strategy to expand in high-growth regional centers while supporting Cebu’s evolution into a premier lifestyle and commerce destination.
