    DOTr opens P1.75-Billion bidding for provincial airport upgrades

    The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is set to spend P1.75 billion on upgrades and repairs across five provincial airports to improve regional travel and connectivity.

    The projects up for bidding include:

    • Ormoc Airport – P419 million for runway repairs, drainage system improvements, and a new safety area.
    • New Naga Airport – P431.33 million for constructing a new runway strip.
    • Antique Airport – P94.44 million for runway resurfacing.
    • Kalibo International Airport – P189.63 million for ongoing landside development.
    • Tacloban Airport – P611.09 million for building and improving airside facilities.

    The bidding process uses a competitive “pass/fail” system and is open only to Filipino citizens, organizations, or companies with at least 60% Filipino ownership. Interested parties can obtain bidding documents for P50,000 from February 21 to March 17, 2026.

    Bid submissions for the Ormoc and New Naga airports are due by 10 a.m. on March 17, while submissions for the other airports close on March 16. The DOTr retains the right to reject any or all bids without liability.

    The improvements are expected to make air travel in these regions safer and more efficient, benefiting daily commuters, tourists, and local economies.
