Robinsons Retail, RLC unit to launch big-box Shopwise in Rizal

Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. is expanding its footprint with a major new supermarket project in Rizal, teaming up with Robinsons Logistix and Industrials Inc., the logistics and industrial arm of Robinsons Land Inc., to develop a large-format Shopwise store in Cainta.

The new store will rise within the Sierra Valley Destination Estate along Ortigas Avenue Extension, positioning it to serve both nearby communities and visitors to the fast-growing estate. Construction is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2027, with operations targeted to begin by the third quarter of the same year.

Designed under the “big box” concept, the upcoming Shopwise aims to deliver a warehouse-style shopping experience focused on scale, efficiency and value. Globally, this retail model is associated with industry giants such as Walmart, Costco, Carrefour and Aldi. These stores are built for high-volume sales and bulk purchasing, typically allowing retailers to offer more competitive pricing.

For consumers, the development signals greater access to value-driven shopping options, particularly for expanding middle-income households and small business owners who rely on bulk buying to manage costs. The new Shopwise will occupy more than 7,000 square meters of land, with approximately 5,000 square meters dedicated to leasable retail space, making it one of the larger supermarket formats in the area.

The project also marks a strategic shift for Robinsons Land’s logistics arm as it ventures beyond traditional warehouse facilities into standalone retail developments, strengthening synergies within the broader Robinsons ecosystem.

Despite a decline in reported net income last year due to a high base that included one-time gains from the merger of Bank of the Philippine Islands and Robinsons Bank, Robinsons Retail continued to post sales growth. As of end-2025, the retailer operated 2,763 stores nationwide across food, drugstore, department store, DIY and specialty segments.

Company president and CEO Stanley C. Co said the group remains focused on expanding its network, enhancing customer experience and investing in formats that support long-term growth.

For residents of Rizal and nearby areas, the upcoming big-box Shopwise represents a significant addition to the local retail landscape, promising wider product selections, competitive pricing and a modern, large-scale supermarket experience by 2027.
