BPI launches debit card made from 100% recycled plastic

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has introduced a new Debit Mastercard made from 100 percent recycled, PVC-free plastic as part of its push for more sustainable banking.

The eco-friendly card is free for clients who open an account at a BPI branch and for existing customers whose cards are up for renewal. Those who want to switch to the recycled card before their current one expires can request a replacement for a standard fee of P200.

BPI is one of the country’s largest debit card issuers, with more than 8.2 million cardholders nationwide. The bank said the new card supports its goal of offering more responsible and future-ready financial products.

Clients can request the new card through the BPI app or online and choose a branch for pickup. A Php 200 fee applies to requests made through digital channels. Customers replacing an old card must first block their existing card in the app to begin the process. The new cards can be picked up at any BPI branch within two to six banking days, depending on location.

Aside from being eco-friendly, the card has a curved notch at the bottom left corner to help users identify and position the card by touch, improving accessibility.

Cardholders will continue to have access to secure online and in-store payments, contactless transactions, global ATM access, and 24/7 account management through the BPI app.

BPI said the launch of the recycled Debit Mastercard reflects its commitment to sustainability while maintaining the same level of security and convenience for customers.
