Fuel prices in the Philippines are expected to increase again this week, marking a fourth straight hike, according to an industry source. The adjustments are likely to take effect on Tuesday.
Gasoline prices may rise by ₱0.50 to ₱2.50 per liter, diesel by ₱11 to ₱13 per liter, and kerosene by ₱3 to ₱5 per liter. Despite the increase, this week’s adjustment for gasoline and kerosene is expected to be smaller compared to the past three weeks, when hikes exceeded ₱5 per liter.
The slower increase is linked to easing tensions in the Middle East, which has helped lower global crude oil prices. Reduced fears of supply disruptions have softened gasoline prices, while diesel continues to see larger increases due to tight supply.
Latest data from the Department of Energy shows that as of March 24–30, average prices in Metro Manila stand at ₱92.50 per liter for gasoline, ₱119.20 for diesel, and ₱153.69 for kerosene.
Amid rising fuel costs, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian urged the government to hold high-level talks with Iran to ensure safe passage of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz. He said this is necessary to protect the country’s energy supply and prevent further economic strain on consumers.
Meanwhile, the government has started boosting fuel reserves under its Emergency Energy Security Program. The Department of Energy confirmed the arrival of its first diesel shipment, totaling about 142,000 barrels, part of a plan to secure up to two million barrels using a ₱20 billion fund.
Officials said the move aims to strengthen fuel supply and reduce the impact of global oil market volatility on the country.
