GSIS launches 3-month loan relief with lump-sum refund

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has introduced “Balik Ginhawa,” a program that gives government workers financial relief through a modified three-month loan moratorium.

The initiative is part of the government’s UPLIFT program under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., which aims to help Filipinos cope with rising living costs.

Instead of pausing loan payments, GSIS will continue salary deductions but refund the equivalent of three months’ loan payments in one lump sum. The refund will cover payments from December 2025 to February 2026 and will be directly credited to members’ accounts.

The GSIS said this approach allows members to receive a larger amount immediately, which they can use for urgent expenses, rather than smaller savings spread over several months.

The program is voluntary. Members can apply through the GSIS Touch mobile app. Approved applicants will have their loan term extended by three months without added interest or penalties.

GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso said the program is designed to provide immediate assistance while ensuring the fund remains stable.

Members are advised to use the app for applications and monitor official GSIS announcements for updates.
