SM Prime to reopen Harrison Plaza in 2027

SM Prime Holdings Inc. will reopen the former Harrison Plaza site in Manila next year as a new, modern shopping and lifestyle hub.

The company is investing over P6 billion to redevelop the property into SM Harrison Plaza, part of its larger P150 billion mall expansion plan from 2026 to 2030. This nationwide program includes upgrading 16 existing malls and building up to 15 new ones.

The original Harrison Plaza, which opened in 1976 as the country’s first modern mall, closed in 2019 and was demolished in 2021.

The new mall will have more than 200,000 square meters of floor space, similar in size to SM City Davao and SM City Clark.

According to Steven T. Tan, the design will feature nature-inspired elements, open spaces, and areas for community and cultural events.

Located in Manila’s Malate district, the project aims to serve nearby residents, office workers, and students, while also attracting tourists due to its proximity to landmarks like Manila Zoo, Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex, and Manila Bay.

The mall will offer a mix of international and local brands and is expected to create thousands of jobs during construction and operations.

SM Prime plans to grow its mall network to 115 by 2030, with continued expansion across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
