Alibaba unveils new AI Model Qwen3.6-Plus focused on autonomous coding

Alibaba has introduced Qwen3.6-Plus, the newest version of its flagship artificial intelligence model, with major upgrades in autonomous coding and multimodal reasoning.

The company said the model is designed to support the growing demand for “agentic AI,” which can independently perform complex tasks instead of just responding to user prompts. Qwen3.6-Plus can plan, test, and refine code on its own, acting as a full development partner from start to finish.

The model will be integrated into Alibaba’s ecosystem, including its enterprise AI platform Wukong and the Qwen App, allowing businesses to automate complex workflows using multiple AI agents.

Qwen3.6-Plus is built around a “capability loop,” meaning it can perceive information, reason through problems, and take action within a single process. It also features a large context window, enabling it to handle extensive coding projects and repository-level engineering tasks.

In addition to coding, the model improves on multimodal capabilities. It can analyze images, documents, and videos, and even turn visual inputs—such as interface screenshots or hand-drawn designs—into working code.

Alibaba said the system is optimized for real-world use, offering stable and accurate performance for business applications like retail analysis and automated inspections.

Developers can access Qwen3.6-Plus through Alibaba Cloud’s Model Studio and use it alongside popular coding tools. The company also plans to release smaller open-source versions to support developers.
