DigiPlus credits bold pandemic pivot for online gaming rise

DigiPlus Interactive Corp. said its rise as the Philippines’ leading online gaming company began as a “leap of faith” when it shifted from traditional bingo halls to digital entertainment during the pandemic.

Company chairman Eusebio H. Tanco said the company’s transformation was driven by its goal of bringing traditional Filipino games into the digital era while staying connected to local culture.

Formerly known as Leisure and Resorts World Corp., DigiPlus built its early business through community bingo halls under the Bingo Bonanza brand. However, the pandemic forced the company to modernize or risk losing relevance as more consumers shifted online.

In January 2022, DigiPlus launched BingoPlus, the country’s first livestreaming digital gaming platform. The company said the platform quickly expanded from online bingo into a broader digital entertainment ecosystem offering more than 1,000 games, including card games, arcade titles, and slots.

DigiPlus also invested in livestreaming studios and in-house game development to create localized content tailored for Filipino players. By 2025, the company said it had grown to serve tens of millions of users while maintaining more than 130 physical gaming sites nationwide.

The company said its growth highlights how traditional Filipino entertainment businesses can adapt to changing consumer habits through digital innovation while still preserving local culture and community connections.
