FedEx breaks ground on major Clark expansion

Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) has broken ground on the expansion of its Clark gateway facility, doubling down on the Philippines as a key logistics and trans-shipment hub in Asia amid booming cross-border trade and e-commerce demand.

The upgraded facility at Clark International Airport will span more than 78,000 square meters once completed, significantly boosting shipment handling capacity and operational flexibility for express, freight, and e-commerce cargo moving through the FedEx Asia Pacific network. The company did not disclose the project cost.

Construction is set to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with Robinsons Land Corp. serving as developer.

“The expansion of our Clark gateway reflects our continued commitment to the Philippines and to building a smarter, more resilient network across the region,” said Masamichi Ujiie. “By enhancing our operational capabilities at Clark, we are better positioned to support Philippine businesses, enable efficient cross-border trade, and provide more reliable connectivity to global markets.”

The groundbreaking ceremony drew top Philippine economic officials, including Frederick Go and Cristina Roque, highlighting the government’s push to strengthen logistics infrastructure and attract investment outside Metro Manila.

“The expansion of FedEx will deepen global connectivity and strengthen local trade capabilities,” Go said. “As the Asia-Pacific region grows, the Philippines will be better positioned to ride on this momentum and drive economic growth.”

Also present were executives Bases Coversion and Development Authority, Clark Development Corp. and Luzon International Premiere Airport Development.

The expansion builds on FedEx’s growing footprint in the Philippines following the opening of its Clark gateway in 2021 and a land lease agreement signed with LIPAD in 2024.

FedEx said the modernized hub will include sustainability features such as LED lighting, insulated building materials, rainwater collection systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and provisions for future solar power deployment as it ramps up long-term operations in the region.

Lufthansa Technik sign separate agreemwnt with LIPAD, the consortoum that operates the Clark International Airport.

Lufthansa for MRO and MOA signed Monday.

A separate agreement will be signed by  FedEx for its expansion set today.

No details from LIPAD. But government sources said the areas to be occupied fall in the concession of LIPAD.

In February, BCDA said FedEx plans to invest USD240 million to expand its hub at the Clark Aviation Complex, with around USD80 million to go to the hub building alone.

FedEx currently operates three to four flights daily from Clark but plans to scale up to as many as 20 aircraft movements per day as it positions the airport as its Southeast Asian hub.  It has existing 3,000 square meter facility will be expanded to about 80,000 square meters. The FedEx expansion is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2027.
