Fueling growth one family dinner at a time

Some executives build companies through spreadsheets and strategy meetings. Eugene Erik Lapasaran Lim has done that too, but many of his best business conversations happen around the family dinner table.

As chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Top Line Business Development since 2013, Lim has helped transform the Cebu-based company from a fuel retailer into a growing business group with interests in logistics, energy, property development, and marine ventures.

The expansion reflects a leadership style that prizes both calculated risk-taking and long-term vision.

Yet for all the boardroom decisions and growth plans, family remains at the center of the story.

Lim shares leadership duties with his sisters, Brigitte Carmel and Constance Marie, creating a management team bound not only by corporate goals but also by lifelong familiarity. Family gatherings often drift into discussions about new opportunities, future projects, and business strategies.

“It’s actually fun to discuss ideas with them,” he said.

For Lim, those conversations are more than routine meetings. They are proof that trust built over decades can become one of a company’s greatest assets. While many executives leave work at the office, the Lim siblings often find inspiration over shared meals and casual exchanges.

His leadership journey has been strengthened by education and continuous learning. A graduate of the University of San Carlos with a degree in Business Administration, he further honed his management skills through the General Management Programme at the National University of Singapore in 2023.

Beyond business, Lim is an active figure in several civic and industry organizations, including the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, the Association for Philippines-China Understanding, and the Rotary Club of Cebu.

Away from meetings and expansion plans, he admits that his idea of luxury has changed over time.

“When we were younger, we thought sleep was just a necessity,” he said. “Now, having enough sleep feels like a luxury.”

Golf provides his preferred escape from the demands of corporate life, while time with his wife and children remains his favorite way to recharge. He also enjoys matcha tea, a taste influenced by his Japanese wife and his admiration for Japan’s culture and efficiency.

That blend of ambition, family values, and quiet discipline continues to power Lim’s journey as he guides Top Line toward its next chapter of growth.
